The challenge

Evaluations were a coach’s memory and a scoresheet in a binder. Ask two coaches about the same player and you got two different answers, and neither of them was written down anywhere a parent could see. Scheduling lived in a group chat, so “who is actually coming Thursday” was a question we asked every single week.

What changed

Coaches evaluate on the same scale, on their phone, in under a minute a player — so the answer about a player is the same answer whoever you ask. Sessions and games go up with RSVPs attached, so we know our numbers before we get to the field instead of counting heads on the touchline.

Seven weeks in, two things I can actually point to: every player now has a written record instead of a coach’s recollection, and we stopped losing the first twenty minutes of a session working out who turned up.
